Enrolment for international students

Chilton's proud tradition for providing excellent education to girls has been built since 1918. Alongside this tradition very strong ethical and moral ideals have developed.

International students are accepted into Year levels 5 and 6 at the age of nine and ten years old if they are living with a parent or guardian, (this is a requirement of the New Zealand Government) and into Year levels 7 through 13 ages 11 years old to 18 years old.  The School has special accreditation to enrol students into Years 7 and 8, as required by the New Zealand Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students.  International students may enter the School from January to September each year.

Chilton will only accept those students who are ready to start the level of education taught at Chilton and who have the desire to study and the ability to succeed. Chilton will never enrol a student who, in the staff’s expert opinion, will struggle and be destined to fail — that is not in the best interests of the student.

Instead of accepting all applicants, Chilton will direct a student to other programmes and levels of study if, in the expert opinionof the teaching staff and the Principal, an applicant student would be better served by learning in another programme.

Each student applicant is treated as an individual. The following entry requirements for International Academic Programmes are a guide only. The Deputy Principal reviews each student applicant and makes a decision based upon all the available information.

Application for enrolment as an international student

The enrolment steps are:

1. You must complete the Application Form and the Tuition Agreement.

These two forms should be emailed,  faxed or posted to:

Please note if these forms are submitted online it will be deemed that you have read the agreement and will abide by it even without your signature.

2. Once the school has reviewed the above two forms, the Deputy Principal - Secondary Pastoral will make her recommendation to the Principal. The Principal will decide if there is a place for your daughter at the school. To allow us to provide an offer of place we wish to see the latest school report (translated) from your daughter’s current school.

3. If a place is available, you will be sent an Offer of Place. This offer will be provisional upon your daughter’s English language ability, together with an invoice for the first year of study. You will be invited to visit the school with your daughter if you are able to do so.

4. Once you have paid the tuition and homestay fees (if applicable) and received a receipt from the School, you must apply to the nearest New Zealand Immigration Authority for a Student Visa to allow your daughter to enter and study in New Zealand. You must take with you the letter of offer and receipt.

5. The New Zealand Immigration Authority will need to see the full letter of acceptance and the receipt of fees before they grant a full visa. No student may begin her tuition without the required visa.

Full details of visa and permit requirements, advice on rights to employment in New Zealand while studying, and reporting requirements are available through the New Zealand Immigration Service, and can be viewed on their website at http://www.immigration.govt.nz

6. Arrival date: The School expects international students to arrive in New Zealand  to take part in the Orientation Programme in late January. Some students may be accepted for entry to Chilton at other times until September if a place becomes available.
