Success at Chilton

Top academic performance is an important factor at Chilton because it provides our students with valuable knowledge and skills to go on into adult life.  Chilton students expect to achieve great results because they work towards them.  With a stimulating range of co-curricular activities, they learn to prioritise their time in order to study effectively while enjoying the many other opportunities on offer.

2010 Scholarship Passes at Chilton

We were delighted that 19 Scholarships were won across 9 different subject areas, including 4 with Outstanding Performance.  Two particularly successful students were Mindy Hu who earned 4 Scholarship passes including 2 with outstanding performance, and Radhika Palepu who earned 3 Scholarship passes, including 1 with outstanding performance.  These impressive results earn them each a New Zealand Scholarship Award and Mindy an Outstanding Scholar Award, making her one of the top 50 students in the country.

NCEA Success in 2010

We are proud to report that Chilton students in 2010 once again were very successful in their NCEA results, with pass rates at all levels exceeding 90%.  Across the three NCEA levels, 25% of Chilton students achieved Certificates endorsed with Excellence and a further 46.2% gained Certificates endorsed with Merit.  In addition, all of our 2010 Year 10 students gained credits towards their NCEA Level 1 certificate, with an average of 3.4 Excellence passes each.  See the graph below for a comparison of our results for qualifications achieved with Excellence in relation to the national average and results of other local Hutt Valley schools.

The focus at Chilton is on each student achieving the very best that they can, whether that be via an individual programme that helps them to gain Level 1 against the odds, or an academic scholar aiming for the top percentile of New Zealand students.  Executive Principal Dr Jillian de Araugo comments, “We are very happy with our 2010 results.  They are a great indicator of the quality of our teaching staff and a testament to the hard work our students put in.“
