Programmes

It's not all work and no play at Chilton.  Opportunities to extend experiences beyond the classroom are everywhere.

Chilton Amadeus Orchestra – After School Programme

The Chilton Amadeus Orchestra programme offers superb opportunities for students – boys and girls from the wider community as well as Chilton students – to build their instrumental performing skills and confidence through a stimulating, contemporary, orchestral playing environment.

This Orchestra programme is open to boys and girls from the wider community.

The Chilton Amadeus Orchestra teaching staff are highly skilled, professional performers and experienced teachers, who are committed to creating a friendly, productive music-making experience for every student.

Students will be introduced to a wide variety of orchestral music, from classical repertoire to contemporary film, musical theatre and popular themes.

Suitable Instruments

Applications are invited from students who play and read music on the instruments listed below.  Piano students will receive guidance in playing tuned percussion instruments such as marimba and glockenspiel, which are valuable additions to the contemporary orchestra sound.  Places may be limited in some instruments.

  • Violin, viola, cello, double bass, bass guitar, guitar, harp, piano, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, French Horn, tuned and untuned percussion.

Student Recommended Playing Level

Students wishing to participate in the Chilton Amadeus Orchestra should be at a Grade 3 or equivalent minimum standard of playing and reading.  This is a guide only, and our tutors will give friendly advice on a student’s level through a simple audition.

All our orchestra arrangements are tailored to suit the playing level of individual students, so students need not be afraid the music will be “too hard” for them!  Students are expected to put in some individual practice in their own time to learning their part.

Rehearsals and Workshops

The Chilton Amadeus Orchestra rehearsals are held on Mondays from 3.40pm – 4.40pm.

The orchestra rehearses as a whole group.  There is also time allocated for sectional rehearsals with tutors.  Students will need to bring a named black clear file folder.  Workshops with specialist tutors also occur from time to time.

The Chilton Amadeus Orchestra will present an informal concert to parents and friends at the end of Term One.  It will also take advantage of a high profile performing opportunities throughout the year. These are:
