Where we have come from helps us to be who we are today. Read on to learn more about what makes us tick.
In October 2008, the Board of Trustees unveiled Building Excellence, Chilton’s Centennial Development Plan to modernise and redevelop our campus. The intention was, and still is, to optimise our students' learning and social environments and is based on the current maximum School roll.
The planned redevelopment of the campus is a long-term programme which will take place in several stages over the next fifteen years or so.
Since the launch of Building Excellence, we have completed the first three projects on time and on budget.
In March 2010 we welcomed the Honourable John Key, Prime Minister of New Zealand, and the Right Reverend Dr Thomas Brown, Bishop of Wellington, to offically open the new purpose-built Greenwood Wing which houses our library and heritage centre, ICT centre and a science laboratory.
The lower level of our original building, FitzGerald House, has been refurbished to become the administrative heart of the School.
The third project completed has been the addition of a new Dance studio on site, bringing the Chilton Dance Centre all together on site.
The old Greenwood building has been removed and the new vacant space landscaped until we raise funds for the next phase of development.
The long term plan provides for improved student social spaces, fit for purpose food and materials technology, visual art, music and drama facilities and a space which can be used as a chapel. The full long-term plan is shown in the attached Masterplan PDF file.
The Board and Management have developed a detailed, long term financial plan for the School. Our funding of projects within the Centennial Development Plan will take into account the current financial capacity of the school and inter-generational fairness. As a result we will be both borrowing and fundraising.
The timing of later stages of the development will be dependent on successful fundraising and the economic environment. Please click on the link to read more about our fundraising initiatives.
