It's not all work and no play at Chilton.  Opportunities to extend experiences beyond the classroom are everywhere.

EOTC Student Experiences in 2010

Below are a few extracts from student's experiences of their 2010 EOTC trips, taken from the 2010 Chiltonian.

Year 7 EOTC

Our experience on EOTC was so amazing. Everyone enjoyed it. Our favourite activity was the rafting at Naenae pool. It was good to make a new friend and to get to know each other. All of the activities were so much fun, especially the pool and sailing. The instructors helped us heaps and were really fun. All the teachers made it really enjoyable, and joined in. Thank you to Mrs Tungatt and everyone who made it happen. It was worthwhile.

Year 9 Camp articles, one written by each of the four Chilton Houses

Laughter at night keeping us awake
Everyone will have memories to take
Weather might be bad but we keep going
In our kayaks we keep rowing
So …………Year 9 camp Kaiteriteri
Was amazing, even though the sun wasn’t always blazing,
We say goodbye to an awesome experience,
Thanks to all that helped out, we all had memories to take home.

I’ll never forget camp
How I abseiled down that wall,
I’ll never forget camp
That 4 hour tramp,
I’ll never forget camp
Kayaking,
I’ll never forget camp
That will always be a must!!!!!

Camp is a place
Where you hardly wash your face
You get down dirty
And your clothes are misplaced.

We did lots of walking
And of course lots of talking
The hike was great
But we all got our aches.

Kayaking was really cold
And the split apple rock was really old
We made our sand sculpture bold
And for that we won the gold

Overall the camp was fun
Too bad it is already done.

Year 12 OPC Overnighter

There are many nights in my life that I will never forget.  The OPC overnighter definitely fits into this category. I will never forget the 5 hour, treacherous tramp to our campsite that our instructor had promised us would in fact be very quick and easy. I will never forget cooking dinner in the pitch black, whilst being showered with sleet and rain, making cooking a simple dinner of macaroni cheese a very complicated task, and I will never forget trying to get to sleep whilst my tent shook, on the verge on collapsing, as it was battered with strong winds.

But then again, I will also never forget the inside jokes that my group and myself formed on our tramp to the site where we would sleep for the night. I will never forget the magnificent views from atop the ridge next to our campsite and I will never forget the joy and excitement that was shared by my group when we finally reached our destination. Although it may have had its good moments and its miserable moments, the overnighter was unquestionably the best possible end to an unforgettable week at OPC. It was a night filled with discovery and personal growth that helped to push the limits of every member in my group and is a night that will stay etched in my memory for many years to come.
