Secondary School Leadership Opportunities – Form Captains and School Council

In Years 7 – 10, a Form Captain is voted for every Term.  The Form Captain follows a list of duties related to this role and to aspects within the organisation of the form class.

Late in Term Three, Year 12 students are invited to submit written applications for a position on the 13-seat School Council.  The appointment criteria for membership of Council are:

  • record of attitude and behaviour consistent with the School’s values and fitting for a Chilton  ambassador
  • record of participation in wider School life
  • evidence of a personal ethos of service
  • record of full participation in School life, e.g. attendance at events such as Commissioning and Carols services, House Swimming and House Athletics
  • evidence that the candidate has the organisational skills to balance her Council responsibilities with her academic program and planned co-curricular involvement for the following year
  • evidence of some support from the senior student cohort.

A consultation meeting is held with the outgoing School Council and another with staff members.  A ballot of senior students and staff identifies the list of candidates for interview by a panel of staff, including the Executive Principal.  Appointments are then made on the basis of all the information gathered. The Head Girl and Deputy Head Girl are announced at Prizegiving.  The School Council manages School-wide activities and promotes and raises funds to implement a School-wide project of their choice.
