Learning and the Library

Chilton's Nesta Mason Library was relocated from FitzGerald into a new purpose built facility, Greenwood in 2010.  The new location puts the centre of learning at the physical centre of the School.

Boasting a sound-insulated computer lab that is constantly booked out by the full spectrum of year levels and subjects across the Junior and Secondary Schools, the library is a popular resource amongst students and staff alike.

Online resources include the library intranet, a library search facility for books, periodical articles and videos, a special Junior School catalogue search, encyclopaedia access including a login to World Book online and special login access to the authoritative Epic databases.

In addition to providing a wide selection of graphic novels, manga, audio books, DVDs and a sophisticated storybook section, the library staff organise a diverse co-curricular programme.  This includes training student librarians from Years 8 to 13, running book clubs for Years 6 to 8 and Years 9 to 13 and organising Kids’ Lit Quiz teams.

Each year, the Year 13 School Council and library staff work closely together to organise a fun-filled Library Week for students across the whole School.  The 2010 event saw everything from a Mad Hatters Tea Party to a hotly contested staff versus student Quiddich match.

The library also houses a parents’ section, sponsored by the Parents’ Association, with books on topics ranging from raising toddlers and young children (both girls and boys), to teenage issues and how to have successful relationships with your teenager.  All are great reading and highly recommended.

The School library is open from 8.30am to 4.45pm and parents are most welcome to browse through the Parents’ library and borrow any of the books.
