It's not all work and no play at Chilton. Opportunities to extend experiences beyond the classroom are everywhere.
The personal development of Chilton students is paramount to their success as remarkable, independent lifelong learners.
The pastoral care system underpins the nurturing element of the personal development programme at Chilton.
A key area of personal development is the leadership opportunities available to Chilton students throughout their schooling. At Chilton, the concept of leadership is all about serving their community, explains Principal Mrs Jude Fawcett.
“All communities stand or fall by virtue of their leadership. It applies from school right through life. Potential leaders need to know how to always do what is right, even if it is not the most comfortable course to take.
“Having a strong moral compass gives our young women the sense and confidence to lead the way.”
At Chilton, there is a whole matrix of ways in which any student can serve in a leadership role. With almost 90 per cent of the school involved in sport there are many leadership opportunities from team captains to coaches. Chilton’s large variety of music groups offers more chances for leadership and similarly there are many leadership roles in Dance and Theatre. Chilton strongly encourages participation in the New Zealand Hillary Programme of the Duke of Edinburgh awards and groups regularly attend the Outdoor Pursuits Centre (OPC), where again their leadership qualities and character are tested to the full.
In day-to-day School life at Junior School levels there are various leadership opportunities.
The Year 13 School Council, their deputies and committees, form an important pinnacle in the leadership opportunities at Chilton. The Council develops a theme for their senior year which they endeavour to bring to life through a range of activities for the whole School. Read more about them here.
