Congratulations to our 2010 Scholarship winners, collecting 19 Scholarships between them - 4 with Outstanding Performance.
Our aim at Chilton is to give all students a broad, well-balanced education. A summary is given below, however for more detailed information regarding courses is available in the booklet "Towards Tomorrow - Choices for the Future" which is available on request from the School Office.
Chilton's vertical approach to timetabling at senior level (Years 11, 12 and 13) means that girls are able to move flexibly through the NCEA, accelerating in an area of strength if they wish, concentrating on an area of interest without sacrificing breadth and backfilling if they have dropped a subject in error. As you can see from the diagram above, Year 10 students also have the option for accelerated learning by taking NCEA Level 1 in subjects where their talents lie.
Students at Years 11 and 12 study six subjects while Year 13 students usually study five subjects from the following choices across NCEA Levels 1, 2 and 3 in addition to Health and Physical Recreation and Religious Studies:
Students in Year 13 study a full course for New Zealand University Entrance and Level 3 of the NCEA. Capable students are encouraged to enter the New Zealand Scholarship examinations, NCEA Level 4 and/or University Study.
In Year 13, one spell of a student’s timetable, as determined by the Deputy Principal Curriculum, may be replaced by Dance, Music Academy or Sports Academy for selected students.
