Sports at Chilton - Teamwork and competition

There is a strong sporting tradition at Chilton, with most girls from Years 3 – 13 playing in one or more sports in addition to the core Physical Education programme.  With over 188 teams across summer and winter sports, there really is something for everyone.

At the Junior School levels, the educational focus is on stage-appropriate physical activity, from developmental movement to gymnastics, from skills to competition.

Students participate competitively in Athletics, Swimming and Cross Country from Year 3. At this level organised team sport, including netball and hockey, is introduced and skills developed in Physical Education classes in the gymnasium, on the playing fields and in the school swimming pool are all applied in competition.  Further sporting opportunities in Year 5 include touch and flippaball. To test their developing abilities and confirm the importance of social interaction in competition, annual sports exchanges with other independent schools are an established feature of the Years 5 and 6 programmes.

At Junior School levels, the Sports Co-ordinator is supported by two part time Physical Education teachers.  At secondary levels, the Head of Sport collaborates with the Head of Physical Education. This powerful team of specialist staff across every level of the School ensures that the range and quality of the co-curricular programme is greatly enhanced without compromising the core classroom programmes offered.
