The International Baccalaureate and a New Zealand education

The International Baccalaureate PYP programme offered at Chilton Saint James School from Preschool to Year 6 integrates comfortably with the New Zealand curriculum so we are able to offer a broad, enriched programme that equips our students for success nationally and internationally.

Numeracy and Literacy are the cornerstones of the core curriculum.  We cross-group to ensure that specific areas are targeted for extension or support and we individualise our programmes to ensure that they are tailored to suit the changing needs of our students. Social Studies, Science, Technology and Health are the arena in which we teach the inquiry, research and self-management skills that become crucial for us all as lifelong learners.

The conscious incorporation of computer access from Year 1 ensures that ICT skills are fully integrated across the curriculum.

At Chilton, we are all learners in a learning community. Our class and specialist teachers model the skills and attitudes of lifelong learners as they engage in constant self-review and professional development to maintain our programmes at the cutting edge of excellence in teaching and learning. Years 1 - 6 have class teachers who teach the core curriculum and specialist teachers who provide the French, Spanish, Ballet, Dance, Physical Education, Music and Instrumental programmes.  At Chilton, we recognize that learning with specialists ensures that our students are introduced to these disciplines by practitioners who have a real passion for, and expertise in their subject areas.
