Middle years and senior secondary schoolingThe secondary years at Chilton Saint James School begin with Year 7. Year 7 and 8 students follow a timetable similar to that of the senior students, so that that even at this younger age, they become familiar with teaching by specialist teachers in specialist rooms.
During their secondary years, Chilton students are grouped into form classes of no more than 24. In the first four years at secondary level, most subjects are taught in form class groupings. Form teachers have primary responsibility for the welfare of all students in their form and are supported through a well–structured pastoral care system.
The curriculum philosophy at secondary level is to expose students to a rich, broad core curriculum during their middle schooling years so that they can make well informed content option choices as they grow older.
It is a feature of the school that girls continue to undertake Religious Studies and take part in Physical Education lessons right up to Year 13. Health and lifestyle education in the middle years is supported with carefully balanced Outdoor Education opportunities. These culminate in a programme of Leadership and Life Skills in the two senior years at Chilton.
