Learning with experts - Secondary schooling at Chilton

At the secondary level, all students from Year 7 to Year 13 are taught by teachers with expertise in their specialist subjects. Taking advantage of the extensive range of specialist facilities available, students move between rooms to work with their specialist teachers in custom designed and specifically equipped classrooms.

The emphasis at every year level is the development of life-long learing skills: intellectual risk taking, inquiry, critical thinking and reflection. The pillars which underpin the secondary curriculum remain: learning to know, learning to do, learning to live with others and learning to be herself.

The Year 7 and 8 programmes combine an emphasis on success in the core curriculum, with a focus on developmental skills. These skills are most specifically notable in student contact with Information Technology and the Dance aspect of the Performing Arts programme.

French and German classes are grounded in the development of broad cultural interest and awareness and focus increasingly on the development of skills necessary for success in the external qualifications in later years.

As students progress through Years 9 – 13, teaching programmes are increasingly tailored towards achieving academic excellence in subjects of particular individual interest, achieving outstanding senior secondary school qualifications and meeting the requirements for University Entrance.
