General tours are available Monday to Friday between 9.00am and 3.30pm during the school term.

Fees

The Board of Trustees and Senior Leadership Team at Chilton Saint James School make every effort to ensure that tuition fees are kept to a minimum. Fees are reviewed annually and notified to parents in December for the following year. Careful consideration is always given to all influences that affect the cost of providing an excellent level of education at the school.

Scholarships

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS CLOSE WEDNESDAY 3 APRIL

Chilton Saint James School is pleased to offer a range of scholarships, available to New Zealand domestic students only. Applying for a scholarship is a simple online process and we welcome all applications.

Applications for our Academic Scholarships are now open

Years 11 – 13 entry: Academic testing required

All academic scholarship applicants must also provide:

  • Copy of most recent school report
  • A copy of academic results gained from current educational institution if applicable (NCEA, Cambridge or IB)
  • A CV which includes a brief summary of your child’s extra curricular activities (volunteer commitments, associations with groups and organisations, school service) which are not supplied within the school report. Please also include any awards or other significant achievements
  • A reference letter (this cannot be from a parent or family member)

At Chilton Saint James we aspire to develop a passion for learning in a caring and friendly environment where students feel nurtured.

Sport is integral to this all-round learning experience and we encourage our students to strive for excellence.

There are two categories where  sports scholarships are available to students at Chilton Saint James School.

  • The Elite Athlete Scholarship
  • The All-Rounder Athlete Scholarship

Applicants must show excellence and commitment to their sport(s) and be willing to contribute to the wider life of the school while meeting the criteria below:

The Elite Athlete Scholarship

This applicant must have been selected for a representative team or had success at national or international level.

The All-Rounder Athlete Scholarship

This applicant must have had selection for a representative team or had success at a regional or national level.

Scholarship Expectations

The nominee will be expected to:

  • Represent CSJ in their chosen sport
  • Coach, officiate, or mentor players in CSJ junior teams
  • Show an ongoing commitment to their academic studies
  • Demonstrate academic improvement at CSJ
  • Be a positive role model to others both on and off the field of play
  • Be committed to the school ethos and values

All scholarship applicants will be required to

  • Complete and submit the Sports Scholarship application form
  • Sit an academic entry test
  • Attend an interview with the principal and director of sport

Applications for our Music Scholarships are now open

Music scholarships are awarded to students who show potential, talent and dedication to their instrument, including voice.  As a guideline, the following standards of attainment on the are a broad expectation for students who wish to apply for a music scholarship.

Year 7 Music Scholarship

Requires an audition and academic testing. This applicant must be at grade 4 or equivalent. Valid for two years and then reviewed.

Year 9 Music Scholarship

Requires an audition and academic testing,. This applicant must be at grade 5 or equivalent. Valid for two years and then reviewed.

Year 11-12 Music Scholarship

Requires an audition. This applicant must be at grade 7 or equivalent. Valid for two years and then reviewed. 

The Audition Process

  • Applicants attend an interview with the Chilton leadership team.
  • In the audition, applicants perform two contrasting pieces on their first instrument and one piece in any subsequent instruments. Applicants may also be asked to sing short passages and respond to an aural test of pitch and rhythm.
  • All music scholarship applicants will be required to sit academic testing.

Please provide the following documentation in support of the application:

  • A recent school report
  • Copies of recent grade examination certificates with mark/comment pages (if applicable)
  • Copies of results from external examinations (senior students)
  • A reference from an instrumental or voice teacher
  • Letter outlining the reason for applying for a Music scholarship and what personal qualities the applicant would bring to Chilton

Applications for our Dance Scholarships are now open

Dance scholarships are awarded to students who show particular potential, talent and dedication in dance. Students must have achieved highly in recognised dance examinations and/or competitions.

Year 9 Entry – This scholarship award is for two years and is reviewed at the end of Year 10. Preference will be given to students enrolled in the Chilton Dance Centre classes.

The format for the formal auditions will include a video audition (maximum of 8 minutes), including two contrasting dance styles, academic testing and an interview.

All dance scholarship applicants must also provide:

  • A copy of their most recent school report
  • A copy of their most recent dance reports
  • A summary of dance achievements
  • A letter outlining the reason for applying for a dance scholarship and what personal attributes would make them an outstanding candidate for Chilton Saint James School

If you are auditioning for the Emerging cba programme, you are required to attend the Emerging cba audition to be held in September.

Please advise in your application if you intend to audition for the Emerging cba programme.

cba is a unique programme offering promising and dedicated dancers whose goal is to pursue a career in dance, the best possible platform from which to achieve their potential.

cba allows students to maximise the amount of time spent in the dance studio without neglecting their academic studies. Students spend half of their school day in a range of dance classes including Classical Ballet Technique, Pointe Technique, Repertoire, Contemporary, Character, Coaching, and Conditioning. The remainder of the school day is spent focusing on academic studies in a classroom environment, working towards Cambridge International qualifications. cba students studying for RAD examinations must attend the Chilton Dance Centre syllabus classes in the evening.

The cba Scholarship is available to students entering Year 10 (Year 1 cba) and is for the two year cba course.

Entry to cba is gained through an audition process, with students required to attend a classical class, a contemporary class, an interview and academic testing. This testing will be done on the audition day.

Occasionally a range of special scholarships are offered at the Principal’s discretion.

A Principal’s Scholarship is reviewed every two years and is for students who support Chilton values and would benefit from a Chilton education but who, due to genuine hardship circumstances, would not be able to attend Chilton.

All Principal scholarship applicants must provide:

  • A copy of their most recent school report
  • A letter outlining what personal attributes which would positively contribute to the character of Chilton Saint James School

All Principal Scholarship applicants will be required to complete a “Disclosure of Financial Position” document with supporting evidence for their application to be considered by the principal. This form will be sent to applicants on receipt of their principal’s scholarship application. This needs to be accompanied by suitable evidence.

Families who accept a Principal’s Scholarship must be prepared to give back to the school. Families who accept a Principal’s scholarship are expected to reapply every two years as family circumstances may change.

Please note, our Principal’s Scholarship will cover up to 50% of overall tuition fees at Chilton Saint James School.

Applications for our Suzanne Duncan Trust Scholarships are now closed

Suzanne Duncan Trust Scholarships are offered by the Suzanne Duncan Trust Board and are available to students from Year 7 onward who are regular and active members of St James’ Church, Lower Hutt.  Please contact St James’ Church to register interest in applying via email at reception@stjames.net.nz

Spend a Day

The best way to find out if Chilton Saint James School is the right choice for your child is simple – have them come and spend a day with us.

Experiencing a normal day here is a great way to meet potential new friends, classmates and teachers, sample our programmes and get to know the campus and all it has to offer.

Parents are welcome to accompany their child on a “Spend a Day” visit.

At Chilton Saint James School, our international students are challenged and supported to excel academically.

Chilton offers Cambridge International Examinations as part of our international programme and caters for short and long-term placements through all age groups.

We are fortunate to host international students from around the world and we are very proud of the support and care we provide through our homestay programme.
