Children learn to sing a wide range of songs, from popular and show tunes with actions, to world and classical music. They learn to read music and increase their understanding of music. Engaging in a range of voice development, ear training and sight singing activities, they also develop presentation and performance skills that build confidence and self-esteem.
The Brio Choir is open to boys and girls in the wider community, as well as to Chilton students.
Brio Choir Activities
Students learn to sing confidently and tunefully in a group. Opportunities for small group and solo singing are available as children become ready. Simple dance moves and actions are added, especially in popular and musical theatre songs.
Children enjoy opportunities to create, compose, conduct and play in various singing games, while working on aspects such as rhythm, beat, inner hearing, pitch and sight singing. Children also use Instruments such as hand drums, handbells, glockenspiels.
Teaching Staff
The tutor of the Chilton After School Brio Choir is Annabelle Cheetham, Dip Tchg, Cert Mus, ABRSM. Annabelle is one of Wellington’s foremost singing tutors. She is a skilled singer and has considerable experience with children’s choirs and musical theatre groups. Annabelle is a dynamic teacher and we are delighted to have her as a creative, caring and skilled member of our teaching staff. She has had a distinguished career as a full time professional singer in Europe with extensive experience in musical theatre and choral groups.
Location and time
Brio is held in the Primary Music Room at Chilton Saint James School on Tuesdays from 3.45 – 4.30pm, for the Junior Group and from 4.30pm- 5.15pm for the Advanced group.
Performance Opportunities
The Brio choir takes advantage of a variety of performing opportunities throughout the year including performing in concerts, and singing in the community.
Communication
Details of the performance dates and venues are communicated via group email. Regular newsletters are also provided directly to Choir members, outlining forthcoming events and concerts.
CD Recording
A CD recording will be made near the end of Term Three, which will be available to families at minimal cost.
Choir Performance Uniform
- Full length, good quality black pants (no jeans).
- After School Choirs red T-shirt.
- Clean black school shoes and black socks.
The T-shirt can be purchased at the Chilton Uniform Shop which is situated on the School campus. Opening hours during Term time are 2.30pm to 4.30pm on Tuesday and Thursday.

Fees
Upon receiving a completed Enrolment form, the Accounts Department will invoice each student at the beginning of each Term. The fees for 2015 are $145 per Term.
