Barbershop Quartets
Students interested in barbershop singing can audition for one of our barbershop quartets. Overseen by a specialist tutor there will be a number of performance opportunities including the barbershop competitions early in Term Two.
Baroque Ensemble
This music ensemble is open to string players, piano/harpsichord, classical guitar, flute and oboe players who have reached a proficient level. Players are expected to be a member of the Amadeus orchestra.
Chamber Groups
Students who reach a reasonable standard on their instrument have the opportunity to work in a small music group. Students are placed in suitable ensembles (duets, trios, etc.) tailored to the students’ level whose musical styles range from classical to jazz or popular.
Drum Corps
The Chilton Drum Corps is a popular and exciting percussion group directed by Maurice Phillips. The performance group is also in demand to perform at community events.
Jazz Band
A new initiative in 2016 this group is open to singers, trumpet, trombone, flute, clarinet, saxophone, piano, guitar, bass and drum/percussion players, who are reasonably proficient on their instrument.
Kapa Haka
Ably led by one of our teaching staff our Kapa Haka group learn waiata for welcomes and other special occasions, Māori greetings and phrases, poi and weaving. Having already performed at a number of public events the profile of this group continues to increase.
Rock Band
Students who are learning a musical instrument or singing are welcome to apply to join one of our rock bands. These students are eligible to enter the Smokefree Rockquest or inter-school Battle of the Bands competitions.
