With one of the largest secondary school orchestras in the Wellington region, our orchestras and string ensembles continue to grow in size and reputation.
Following on from our Junior School, Giovane Orchestra students can join the Years 7 – 8 Amabile Orchestra.
Chilton have a number of other performance groups on offer including Legato Strings and chamber music groups.
Amadeus Orchestra
The Chilton Amadeus Orchestra offers superb opportunities for girls at Grade 3 or above playing standard (typically Year 9) from Chilton and the wider community. Amadeus aims to build their instrumental performing skills and confidence through a stimulating, supportive, orchestral playing environment. Students are introduced to a wide variety of orchestral music, from classical repertoire to contemporary film, musical theatre and popular themes.
Directed by Lynne Scott, the orchestra performs in Wellington’s Michael Fowler Centre accompanied by massed singing for the Wellington Artsplash Music Festival, as well as performing personal items. In the 2013 KBB Music Festival, the Amadeus Orchestra received a bronze award.
Legato Strings
More advanced players of violin and cello may be selected for this group. The group is directed by our violin tutor Mrs Rebekah O’Grady. A variety of performance opportunities is provided throughout the year at selected School events. Members are required to have their own instrument, or the use of a school instrument.
