Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care

This year, we want to focus on pastoral care. In a time when 15% of young people experience anxiety or depression, schools need to consider carefully just how what they do to meet the diverse emotional needs of students.

Pastoral Years 7-10
In the Middle School this year, students will be in form classes that Years 7 and 8 and Years 9 and 10 rather than a full 7-10 vertical form. This gives students who are new to settle in easily in Year 7 especially with students close to their age. For those in Years 9 and 10 they will be encouraged to build leadership.

Pastoral Years 11-13
It is important that we give girls at this age the greatest of support, especially as they move into examinations and then look to the task of selecting where they wish to go in life.

This year, tutor groups replace form classes. Great care has been taken to place girls in classes in a particular manner. Firstly, in most cases, the girls are being taught by their tutor teacher. This means the tutor teacher gets to know them in the classroom as well as pastorally. Secondly, we have aimed to group girls in friendship groups. To ensure that girls get quality support, the groups have no more than 9 students in them so there is ample opportunity for the teacher o truly get to know them and support them. Al Year 11 and 12 students are asked to meet with me in the foyer of the JC at 8.30am on Friday 25 January. At this time, I will talk them through the way in which this system will work. In the afternoon, parents are asked to come with their daughter to meet the tutor. This is very important and we ask that, if you are unable to attend, that you contact the school so that an alternative time can be arranged. The Parent Portal will be open on Friday so that parents and girls can uplift timetables and see who the new tutor will be.

We are excited about the opportunity to give greater service to our girls and ask for your support.
