WHY PLAY SPORT?
“Girls who participate in sports not only develop the useful skills of leadership, problem solving and physical coordination but often add to their reservoir of confidence, competence and connectedness. In fact, probably more than any other category, sports can do it all”. JoAnn Deak, Ph.D., has spent more than thirty years as an educator and psychologist. In her literature she refers to the three “C’s” Confidence, Competence and Connectedness and contends that these three “Cs” “are the three critical components of self-esteem”.
Our Year 7 and 8 students are now being exposed to more sporting opportunities during curriculum time. A new initiative in 2018 has allowed for a sport spell in Terms 1 and 4 where outside providers are used to expose, extend and engage our middle school students in different sporting codes. In Term 1 the girls will have the opportunity to try Golf, Hockey, Tchoukball and Volleyball.
