A private school, located on an extensive campus in Lower Hutt (15 minutes from Wellington central business district) – we pride ourselves on a comprehensive learning experience for students. With small class sizes and fantastic teaching staff, it is our belief that the best education combines academic with creative expression. Chilton girls are encouraged to dream big, have a sense of adventure and be inspired to achieve their personal best.
As a prospective parent we want you to get the most from our website so we have put the most commonly requested information within easy reach. Please use the side-bar navigation menu to learn more.
Your child may be the one heading off to school, but we understand that really it is the entire family that is part of the journey. We look forward to welcoming you into our Chilton family.
Getting Started at Chilton
The best way to select a school for your child is to come and visit – you can visit us any day or you can come and visit at our forthcoming Open Days.
A next step you may wish to take after visiting the campus is to have your daughter Spend a Day at Chilton within the Junior or Senior School depending on her Year Level.
Experiencing a normal school day at Chilton and attending classes with future classmates is a really great way to help make a more informed decision about the best School for your child.
Reading testimonials from our students (past and present), staff and parent community may help you to understand what others see as the real benefits of attending Chilton.
We operate waiting lists throughout the School so we urge you to submit an Enrolment Form in advance of your anticipated start date.
For an accurate picture of the list for a particular peer group, please contact the Registrar.
The main intake levels at Chilton are:
- New Entrants / Year 1
- Year 7
- Year 9
Places at other year levels are also available.
We recommend that you seek enrolment at Year 7 in preference to Year 9 if you are considering Chilton as your daughter’s secondary school due to the advantage of specialist teachers for all subjects at Year 7. This is not only important for the core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science and Social Sciences but also the opportunities for in-depth programmes in French, Chinese, Music, Art and Technology.
All prospective students are required to attend an enrolment interview with the Principal or Deputy Principal Junior School and have the opportunity to Spend a Day. Please note that completing an Enrolment Form does not guarantee entry to the School.
There are also Scholarships available.
