Chilton offers the Cambridge International Examinations and the National Certificate in Educational Achievement model (NCEA) as part of our international programme and caters for short and long-term placements through all age groups.

Homestay and Welfare

Chilton Saint James School is fortunate to host International students from around the world and we are very proud of the support and care we provide through our Homestay Programme.

To enable our international students to achieve academically, learn about Kiwi life and culture, and to feel at home in New Zealand, we seek to place them in welcoming and supportive family environments.

Homestay Services

  • All family members of the homestay who are over 18 years of age will be Police vetted.
  • The Homestay Manager will make an assessment of the homestay carer’s ability to provide suitable accommodation and appropriate physical and emotional support and guidance.
  • Chilton provides guidelines and support structure for homestay providers through the Homestay Manager.


  • The Homestay Manager stays in regular contact with homestay families as well as visiting each student’s homestay at least twice a year.
  • The International Support Team seeks ongoing feedback from students on their homestay situations and liaises with the Homestay Manager over any concerns.

Caring for your daughter

Chilton Saint James School has agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students. Copies of the Code are available at the New Zealand Ministry of Education website.

We want to ensure your daughter is well supported to make the most of her overseas experience. Our Pastoral Care and International Support Team provide comprehensive care for our international students, ensuring their transition into our school is as easy as possible. Regular international student meetings and one on one interviews throughout the year are held to assist girls settle into the school’s routine and provide ongoing support.
